About the care for the elderly (part2)

In Japanese society, there is an old notion that the wives must take care of their parents-in-low. If the wife cannot do it well she tend to get criticized by her husband and the relatives. And Japanese are serious ( as you know) so most people try to nurse all by themselves. Even though they cannot do it well, most of them won't ask for help, and then they will be isolated and they will be exhausted. That's the biggest problem. In my serial cartoon about the care for the elderly, the main character is an actual person, she takes care of seven elderly persons of her family all alone at the same time! It must have been valuable but miserable experience. I try to make the cartoon that readers cannot read it without laughing. We should share responsibilities more, not to entrust elderly care to one person. In doing so, we'll get a society that we can live with senior citizen easier and happier. That's what I hope for.

Interview with the victims in Fukushima.

I went to Fukushima to interview with victims. That huge public facility "Big Palet" in Fukushima prefecture was crowded over 2800 refugees and they have been slept on the floor in the corridor and the hall without bed whole 5months after nuclear power plant's accident in 2011. There were a number of public facilities what have been used as refuges for victims, not only Fukushima but other prefectures. Can you imagine that? Do you think that's normal thing???

About my work

My occupation is a cartoonist. As you know, the cartoons are important part of Japanese culture. It's entertainment for men and women of all ages. But it's more than just entertainment, it can be educational too. My themes of works are social problem, for example, medication of women and children, about Great Est Japan Earthquake in 2011, radiation effects in Fukushima, international cooperation and global health. I often go around to interview with people in Japan and developing countries. I might be similar to be a journalist. The aim of publishing my book is the act of reporting the real world, real state to my readers and let them think about that. Japanese tend to pretend not to see the social problem. Besides the majority of Japanese citizens are not good at saying their own opinions positively. Although they recognized a social problem, they easily give up to oppose it. Because they think general citizens don't have enough power to reform society.
